Shattered Gods

Published by Sourcebooks Casablanca
Book 10 in the Dark Olympus Series
She was Olympus's Queen. Its sacrifice. Its savior. Its destruction.
Long ago, Circe was Hermes' entire heart. The two women lived on the outskirts of Olympian society, content with a quiet life away from the spotlight. Then Circe caught the eye of Zeus…and was forced into a marriage that would take her freedom, her future, and in the end, her life. In the wake of the tragedy, gossip swirled about the woman Zeus married and (allegedly) murdered…but in time, everyone forgot about beautiful, tragic Circe.
Everyone but Hermes, who vowed on that day to bring Olympus to its knees.
Now, fifteen years later, a new Zeus rules the city, a new Hades protects his people, a new hope dawns…and Hermes has begun to think there may be things about Olympus worth saving. With Atalanta by her side―and slowly rebuilding her heart―Hermes may finally be ready to set aside her fury and seek the city's rebirth instead of its total annihilation. But there is a beautiful devil on Hermes' other shoulder: a devil who rose, blood-soaked, from where Zeus left her for dead years ago. A devil who has waited all this time to have her revenge.
And no matter their past, no matter the desperate love they once shared, no matter the complicated triad forming between the three women, Circe will not rest until all of Olympus lays shattered at her feet…and the gods help anyone who gets in her way.
A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Hermes and Atalanta and Circe.

Before I begin, I would like to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca for sending me an arc of Shattered Gods by Katee Robert, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I can't lie to you. I didn't like Shattered Gods.
Which is such a shame, because after reading ten books to get to this conclusion, I just felt so let down by the end of it.
For complicated reasons.
This series was dragged out. It was way too long, and yet, the conclusion felt so rushed. I understand Kate giving each couple/throuple/quad their own book, but the overlapping arc of Circe taking over Olympus was both slow as hell, and at the end, so rushed. While Olympus get's a conclusion of sorts, we don't really get one for all the characters we have read about, except for Hermes, Atalanta and Circe. We know what they are forced to do - but as for the characters we love, we don't know what happens to them, or if they are happy.
It's frustrating that after ten books, they are so callously pushed aside.
The hardest part for me, however, was the romance. I loved the chemistry and tension between Atalanta and Hermes. Their deep love and friendship for one another had me rooting for them.
I just had so much trouble with Circe. I love to love a villain, but there wasn't anything about Circe that I particularly enjoyed - or understood what Hermes and Atalanta saw in her.
Yes, she lived through a horrific trauma.
Then she turns around and becomes just as terrible as those she hunted. She planned on executing whole families. She didn't even question it until she saw how if affected Hermes.
I just couldn't get past that.
This is the hard part of being a reader. Getting over disappointment. But hey, I look forward to Kate's future work.
And yes, I did catch up with the series. Review will be coming soon for that one as well.

Cass: "But -"
Apollo: "No more, Cassandra. Either you get your purse and walk out that door at my side, or I'm going to tie you up, toss you over my shoulder, and haul your ass out of here by force."
Damn. I half turn away, resisting the urge to fan myself theatrically. There's no arguing with him, and Cassandra is smart enough to realize it. She huffs out a breath.
Cass: "Another time, that would be really sexy and not at all infuriating."
Apollo: "Another time, I'll play that game with you."
He lowers his voice further.
Apollo: "If you ask nicely."
Dionysus: "You and I might have fallen out, but I'm, not a butcher, Hermes. Atalanta has been wronged by the Thirteen more than she deserves. I wouldn't add to that it there's another option."
Atalanta: "Lying right here,"
I mutter.
Atalanta: "Can hear you."
Dionysus pats the air right about my head.
Dionysus: "Yes, you are, and you're doing a great job breathing. Keep it up."
She gives me a disgusted look.
Demeter: "If I were going to kill you, I wouldn't leave a speck of evidence in the process. I certainly wouldn't do it in my family's home."
Hermes: "The infamous pigs,"
I murmur.
Demeter: "Just so."
