The Kings of Kearny

Jakob Larson is going to be the death of me.

They call him The Viking, and he’s chief enforcer of the motorcycle club that runs this small Texas town. He’s a criminal. As dangerous as he is sexy. The kind of man who makes you sit up and take notice. Oh, and I’ve noticed. There’s an extra energy in the bar where I work on the nights he’s there. He’s clearly looking for something, on the prowl. Because someone is breaking one of the cardinal rules set by the leader of The Kings.

Unfortunately, he’s noticed me too. Now we’re neck-deep in trouble even bigger than the Kings, and every time I think know what’s really going on, he reveals another surprise. But how far am I willing to go him to protect this town? If I fall for him, there’s no going back. No hope for a peaceful ending. But perhaps descending into darkness with him could lead to something even better than a happily-ever-after.

Before I begin, I would like to thank Forever Publishing for sending me an ARC of The Kings of Kearny in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is exactly the type of books I want to read in the summer.

Hot, steamy and sometimes dark romances.

It hit the spot after a bit of a reading slump.

It had everything I want in this type of story. Plot, characters I can root for, chemistry and romance. The storyline in Kings of Kearny drew me in right away. I loved how these characters came together in an effort to get drugs out of the town. It added a bit of mystery to the overall story, which made it fun to read.

The best part of this book was the characters. I loved both Jakob and Krista, and it was easy for me to root for them. The fact that they are both ex-military, and both excellently trained, put them on equal ground. It's an element that isn't usually seen in these types of books, and something I fully enjoyed. I loved that Krista was able to hold her own. Even when she didn't have all the information, it still felt like Jakob and her were equals in their fight. It added to the simmering chemistry between them, and it made the romance between them hot.

The Kings of Kearny is a great, short read if you are in the mood for a MC romance that isn't too dark. It left me wanting more. If Navessa Allen ever wants to make this a series, I will devour it.

Gran: "Call me Izzy,"

Gran said as they released each other. She stepped back and prodded me with her elbow.

Gran: "Well done, you,"

she said in an appreciative tone.

I nearly choked.

Krista: "Gran, he can hear you."

Gran: "I know that,"

she said, still eyeing him like he was a tall drink of water and she was just dying of thirst.

Krista: "Fine. But you'd better behave."

Jakob: "Look who's talking,"

he shot back.

Gran: "oof, the tension between you two,"

Gran said, rising from her seat. She sighed, a hint of longing in her expression.

Gran: "My favorite part if fighting with your grandfather was when we got around to making up."

Ewww.

Krista: "Gran, I never needed to know that."

She grinned.

Gran: "We broke a table once."

The earthy, herbal stink of pot hit my nose.

Krista: "Gran! You're not supposed to be smoking dope!"

Gran: "Its for my glaucoma."

Krista: "You don't have glaucoma."

She dropped her hands and sent me a flat look.

Gran: "Then it's for the headaches my overbearing granddaughter gives me."

Krista: "I'm not in the Kings."

Gran: "Good. One set of lawbreakers is enough for a family."

She peered through the windshield at Jakob's wide back.

Gran: "Though I might be willing to make an exception about letting one more in."

He turned to me with his signature fuck you face. He looked pissed off, but I was pretty sure he wasn't and that this was just how his facial features registered any strong emotion. Angry? Scowl. Confused? Scowl. Turned on? Scowl, but make it look sexy.

Amanda glanced over at Jakob.

Amanda: "Don't settle for anything less than two orgasms."

I grinned.

Krista: "I won't."

Krista: "Aw, you had a crush on me, and it took you three months to work up the courage to ask me out."

Jakob: "Stop it."

Krista: "That's adorable, Jakob. I knew you were a softie deep down."

Jakob: "If I promise to go deep down on you when we get back, will you shut up?"

Krista: "No. You're never living this down."

Jakob: "Get out of the car, Krista,"

he said, his voice muffled from the other side of my window.

Krista: "No. You have your scary face on,"

I yelled back at him.

He pressed his forehead to the glass and stared down at me.

Jakob: "This isn't my scary face. This is my worried face."

Krista: "You promise you're not about to violently murder me?"

He shot me a look that said he was tempted.

Jakob: "No. Now stop acting like a child and get out of the car."

I stuck my tongue out at him.

He closed his eyes and looked like he was praying for patience.
