From Nowhere

by Jewel E. Ann

Self-Published

Book 2 in the Wildfire Series

When Maren Bernabe stops by the office to update some paperwork, she’s not looking for love.

Then sparks fly during an awkward meet-cute with a stranger in the bathroom, and suddenly anything seems possible.

A seasoned air tanker pilot, Maren battles fires across the rugged Montana wilderness. With firefighters for roommates, she’s no stranger to tough guys—or tough situations. Ozzy Laster is the helpful stranger she meets, one of Cielo Aviation’s newest aircraft mechanics who’s faced his fair share of hardship too. Two years ago, his wife and father died in a car crash. Now Ozzy and daughter Lola shun cars in favor of bikes.

Maren and Ozzy fall hard, but guilt forces them to hide their relationship from Ozzy’s disapproving in-laws. And Lola. They all want to protect her from more heartbreak. But when tragedy strikes again, Lola’s reaction will surprise them all. And Ozzy could get a second chance at love after all…

Ohhhhh, I loved this one.

It had everything I love about a Jewel. E. Ann romance.

Chemistry. Tension. Layered characters with interesting stories.

Banter.

Did I mention the chemistry and tension?

Swoon.

Of course, it's a Jewel E. Ann book, so the story was also excellent.

I absolutely adored every character in this book ... well ... not the ex in-laws. I was empathetic to them for their loss, but that is about it.

Maren is just as fun to read in From Nowhere as she was in From Air. Her sunny attitude wasn't grating (sometimes I find those overly happy characters a little too much) and she was just a very relatable character to read overall.

Throw in Ozzy (obsessed with the name), with his golden retriever personality, and we got a match made in book heaven.

The banter between these two.

Chemistry and excellent banter, along with an interesting story?

Jewel E. Ann knows how to write the perfect contemporary romance.

Ozzy being a single dad with a manipulative ex mother in-law would have been enough of a roadblock in this romance, but Jewel E. Ann is such a seasoned writer, in all honesty, that would have been too simple for her.

Ozzy being a single dad to a child with severe PTSD is a twist that elevates this story, in my opinion.

This isn't my first book that I've read where a single parent finds love, and a child gains a new parent.

This is, however, the first book I've read where the new person entering the family has such a profound effect on that child.

I honestly don't think Lola could have healed without Maren. Ozzy was doing okay. He grieved his wife. He loved her. Maren was his sign he was ready to move on. Lola was stuck. Yes, she missed her mother, but her terror of dying, or losing the only parent she had left, had her stuck. Maren modeling a woman facing her fear after trauma was exactly what Lola needed.

Usually children in romances is an annoyance I'm willing to deal with, but in From Nowhere, Lola's story was important to Maren and Ozzy's story.

I didn't think I would love this book as much as I did. While I enjoyed From Air, I didn't love it as much as I have Jewel's other work. From Nowhere sucked me right in to the last page.
