Dirty Deal

Book 5 in the Slayers Hockey series

Fatherhood blindsided me.

There I am, working to get a rise out of my cranky little rule-following, fun-wrecking, soon-to-be ex-neighbor when my one-night stand from last season shows up… in labor.

Next thing, I’m a single-dad begging for a crash course in caring for this tiny miracle from the neighbor who loves to hate me.

Turns out, Nora raised half her siblings.

She knows things.

And I know my son needs her.

Unfortunately, she’s not impressed by my NHL career, my legendary charm, or the rumors surrounding the size of my stick (all true btw).

But I’m not trying to impress her. Not anymore. I can’t.

I’m asking her to help me out, because my son deserves better than some player who hasn’t even had a chance to read the manual yet.

Which means no matter how hot I find her spitfire mouth and those rules she doesn’t break… Nora is off-limits.

I would like to thank Mira Lyn Kelly and her team for sending me an ARC of Dirty Deal, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Dirty Deal by Mira Lyn Kelly centers around Slayers hockey player Axel, who unexpectedly becomes a father when an old hook up arrives of his door step in labor. With the option to go through with her plan of putting the baby up for adoption, or becoming a single dad, Axel knew he couldn't give up his son. The problem? He has no idea how to take care of a baby, and as an NHL player, his schedule is grueling. Enter Nora, his feisty neighbor whom he always tries to rile up. For Nora who is unexpectedly jobless, and without an apartment in a few days, her options are limited to taking Axel up on his offer to be his son's nanny, until he has time to find someone else, or go back to the home that took her forever to escape from. While Nora teaches Axel how to take care of Otto, the unmistakable attraction grows between them. But Axel can't cross that line, and risk his son losing a constant, loving presence in his life. No matter what it costs him.

Oh, I love the Slayers hockey series. Mira Lyn Kelly has an undeniable way of writing male characters that feel real. "Alpha" but sweet. She writes amazing banter - especially between the teammates. I was a little worried going into this one, though. Babies, when written into romance, can make the book, or break it. Let me tell you, though, I was gushing with all the feels after reading this book. Mira Lyn Kelly created a wonderful balance between baby and parents, and romance. There was a lot of baby Otto - there has to be. He is the one who is forcing these two people to spend time together after all. And let's face it - if you read this book, you are going to fall in love with that baby. You can't help it. He is fucking adorable. But I never felt like his presence ruined the romance. And Axel and Nora's slow burn romance was delicious. It felt unforced and natural. It was hot. I felt, and understand both characters, and the growth they gain throughout the story makes it all the more interesting.

Seriously, even if you are not crazy about babies in romance novels, give Dirty Deal a try. Don't let sweet little baby Otto scare you away. Dirty Deal is a fun read, that I know you will love.
