Waiting for Us is another book that I got during a Fill Your Kindle event. The synopsis called to me, despite me being ... meh ... about erotica.

Frankly, if this was just erotica, I probably wouldn't like it.

After all, as much as I love smut, I love reading more. I want the story.

Believe it or not, this short story - only 60 pages long - had a story. I was impressed. Sure - a lot of it was sex. Very, very hot sex. But it also had characters who were struggling - personally, and in their marriage.

And I think that is why I enjoyed it.

Because while it's intent is to be a spicy short story that ends happily, Mari Carr establishes a story that will hit home to many. A story that brings to the forefront that a couple can love one another deeply, but still hit a bump in the road. And sometimes, you gotta put the work in to get over the bump.

Is the story predictable? Absolutely.

Who expects magic in a short story of this nature?

That fact that Mari Carr was able to write a short story that drew me in, and had me purchasing the rest of the series afterward, shows some talent.

If you love reading erotic romance that is heavily alpha/submissive, and slightly leans into BDSM - you will enjoy this short story. It's short, but packs a big ol' punch.

Evan: “What do you say we head home, Ms. Iser? I have a hankering to hear you make all those delicious noises again. In bed.”

Annie was off the stool before he’d added the last bit.

Annie: “You’ll have to catch me first, Lieutenant.”

And with that she jiggled her car keys with a giggle and left.
